2 New Amazon Finds for your Kitchen

After spending a lot of time in my kitchen, I decided to head over to Amazon and find a few simple inexpensive upgrades for my kitchen. Sharing 2 new Amazon kitchen finds with you today.

Did you know that you can test the sharpness of your knife by holding up a piece of paper and seeing if the knife slices through the paper? It is that simple, just hold up a piece of paper in your non-dominant hand and if the knife runs through the paper, it is sharp. If the paper is cut, but has jagged edges, it needs sharpening or honing.

After spending a lot of time chopping and slicing. Using dull knives frustrated me and added more prep time to my cooking. Finally, one morning, after several attempts to slice a pineapple with a dull blade, I went shopping on Amazon. I was looking for a nice set that was not too pricey. I found this Cuisinart Triple Rivet Collection Cutlery Set in White. Alright, I will admit the white handles caught my eye, but I still was careful to read the reviews. The ratings were good, and without hesitation I clicked place order.   

Now, I enjoy prepping for our meals. Adding something new to my kitchen felt refreshing. These attractive kitchen knives come with a wooden butcher block for storage. Setting them out on my counter is an added perk to my kitchen décor. I will warn you that they are very sharp. As careful as I tried to be, I did cut my finger while washing them.

Knife care tips

1. When chopping be careful not to slide the knife sideways or brush what you have chopped into a pan, as that will dull your blade. Flip the knife over when sliding food off your cutting board
2. That steel rod that comes with your set will help to maintain your blades. This is called honing. It is important to use this tool often to keep your knives sharp. 
3. Each time you use a knife it dulls the blade. It’s important to use a good cutting board, avoid acrylic, stone, and glass boards. Try to only use wood or plastic cutting boards.
4. Always Wash your knives by hand.

One more Amazon find

As easy as it is to get distracted when shopping on line, I should also mention that I purchased a new toaster! This was another much-needed kitchen appliance. I found this Geek Chef Extra Wide Four Slice Toaster on Amazon while shopping for knives! My husband likes to make English muffins and our old toaster did not have the wide slices. This toaster is in the medium price range for small kitchen appliances. I am happy that I can easily find what I need for my kitchen by heading over to the Amazon website.

Just a thought, a while back I had purchased cutlery sets for my three sons and my son-in-law as Christmas gifts.
