It is time for sweater weather. Along with your pumpkin spice lattes, and pulling out your fall decorations, it is now time to rework your wardrobe. Today, I am going to focus on comfy and cozy sweaters. In fact, I have put together a list of 5 fall sweater trends for women over 50. Many of us will find ourselves living in sweaters through the fall and even into the spring season. Therefore, it is wise to invest in sweaters that you will get excited about wearing and keep you warm for the next few months.
5 Fall Sweater Trends for Women Over 50
1) Oversized Cardigans
Oversized Cardigans that are longer and well past the hip are a wonderful choice. You can wear these with leggings, jeans, and dress pants. From fun animal prints to neutrals, or a bright statement color. There are several ways you can style these with accessories or scarves for different looks.
2) Plaid and Argyle
Whether you choose pastels, or bright colored prints, your friends will certainly be plaid to see you. These classic patterns will never be outdated. I would choose to keep the rest of your outfit quiet since the plaid is eye catching enough. For example, wear a pastel plaid with light colored denim jeans. On the flip side wear dark colored pants or skirts with a dark argyle or plaid pattern.
3) Color Block Sweaters
Yes, this look is once again making a comeback from the 90’s. You will not only see it in fashion but also in décor. Now keep in mind it is not necessarily a pattern as it is a mix of color. It is done by incorporating blocks of color into to your outfit. You can even choose a monochromatic look by involving different shades of all the same color. One of my favorites is red and pink. However, the best way to color block is to choose one color and add another in a softer shade or one that contrast.
4) Cable Knit
The most flattering length is just below the hip. Cable knits look good with leather pants and pleated skirts. Belt them if you choose to accent your silhouette. I own this belt, and love to use it to accessorize blazers, sweaters and even dresses. This style of sweater was meant for warmth and layering. Top off your look with a stripped button-down shirt and your favorite jeans with a cozy cable knit. You can also layer this type of sweater over a long narrow skirt with boots.
5) Puffed Sleeve
You may have already seen puffy sleeves on flowy summer blouses. This somewhat romantic look is one of my favorites. Of course, there are exaggerated puffy sleeves and sleeves with a delicate pouf, choose what suits your individual style.
Well there you go ladies, I hope this prepared you because ready or knit here comes fall!

I’m doubtful I’ll be wearing sweaters in Naples right now but with traveling back to Chicago they are very much needed. I often find the plane ride is chilly and I appreciate having a sweater with me.
Take Care,
Nancy
