5 Trends That I am currently Loving
Each year the fashion industry entertains us with it’s newest seasonal trends. As a baby boomer, I have already worn many of the looks they share. Some I refuse to wear again, and some I am elated for a chance to reintroduce into my wardrobe. I do enjoy 5 seeing some fashion trends make a comeback. Today, I am sharing 5 trends that I am currently loving.
Shorts
Many women ask themselves, should I wear shorts over 50? The answer is yes! The key is to find styles that flatter your silhouette. The best selling and popular shorts you’re buying this year are:
- 10 inch Bermuda Shorts on Amazon
- Belted Paperbag Short on Amazon
- Tie Waist Camp Short
- Denim Bermuda Cut Jeans
I personally prefer the retro high waist paper bag shorts and Bermuda length shorts. The return of fringed cut off denim shorts is very popular and this style is available in just the right length.
The fabric of your shorts will dictate their dressiness. Cotton and denim are deemed casual, whereas natural silk and linen have a luxurious appeal.
Skorts are also seeing a comeback this summer. I owned my first skort in eighth grade and I wore it with white go-go boots. Though the skorts we see today are more athletic looking and women wear them with tennis shoes (these are the best walking shoes by the way) and flip flops.
Color
Just say Yes to wearing color, it makes a happy statement! You do not have to wear color from head to toe. You can add interest with one colorful accessory or statement shoe. This summer we are seeing an entire rainbow of fun-colored shoes and purses. Bright cheery colors add instant personality to any outfit. White shoes have also stepped in as a newly favored look this summer. White sandals remind me of my teens. My girlfriends and I would run home from school and turn on the television to watch our favorite dancing show. All the California girls were wearing white platform sandals with their baby doll dresses, and yes, we would dance along with them.
Two Piece Sets & Pantsuits
Back to the 90’s here! I wish I still had all my short outfits and pantsuits, as the retailers are stocking up with two-piece sets for fall. It’s a no brainer when it comes to getting dressed as you already have a top and bottom that match! As much as I’m a fan of bringing this back, I’m still out there about bringing back corsets to wear underneath?
Crochet
Normally people associate knits with colder temperatures. In summer, knits are a good addition to your wardrobe because they have duo styling. We are seeing summer crochet bags and beach cover -ups. But you can swap out your bathing suit and layer a shirt under a crochet cover up with a pair of jeans for fall. This bohemian chic trend will never completely disappear, as it has a fun-loving carefree vibe.
Retro Sunglasses
I’m having so much fun with this trend that I must restrain myself from shopping for more. I have really enjoyed adding new sunglass styles to my collection. I look for inexpensive ones that I don’t have to worry about leaving them behind, which I often do.

Love some of these trends Nancy! If only I didn’t need a prescription for my sunglasses, I would have more than a few pairs! Love the ones you shared here. Your wrap dress is beautiful on you, big fan of wrap dresses! I love wearing color as well! I do get in the mood for neutrals but have always loved wearing color.
Have a great day!

Thank you for your response, Jess, I know you need to stick to prescription glasses, but you certainly find ways to stay fashionable.

Love this. I recently came across a photo of me in a grey and matching white stripe short and jacket

That would be gray and white

I’m so glad that you enjoyed the read. Fashion trends keep me entertained 🙂 too. I tend to like some of the 40’s retro styles, but I will admit I can’t see ever wearing bra tops (aka Madonna) again.

I love using sunglasses for an update as you can wear them every day and get a big bang for your buck! I’m also growing more and more fond of paper bag waist shorts and trousers. Great finds!

Thank you very much for your comments as it means a lot to me to hear feedback. Please stay in touch and let me know what works for you. Fashion really keeps us guessing as to what is coming next, although we as consumers have the last word, right 🙂

Wow, it’s amazing how fashion trends come back around!
We’re still in the midst of a very cold winter downunder, so will be looking out for these trends over the next few months!

I know I like seeing your posts for the very same reason. It’s fun to see what’s ahead in fashion for me too. I just have a hard time thinking snow when its 90 degrees out.
