7 ideas for what to do on Mother’s Day
With its rich and regal texture brocade fabric dates all the back to the days of renaissance royalty. A perfect #ootd for a Mother’s Day Brunch. If you’re looking for new ideas on how to spend Mother’s Day, I have a few ideas to share. Ladies, enjoy your special day as the ceremonial “queen” who is otherwise referred to as Mom
I’m very fortunate that I get to see my children and grandchildren frequently. My children all live within 30 miles of the home they grew up in. However, now that my children are married, and have in-laws and a larger extended family, I notice they’re juggling to try and fit in visits over the holidays.
In my opinion, for most holidays, it’s important that we all try to be together. If this means we celebrate Christmas a few days earlier because one of them needs to travel then that’s perfectly fine.
The one holiday I feel I should now step aside from is Mother’s Day. Please do not get me wrong (especially if any of my children are reading this) I just feel that my children, as parents, need to make their own special traditions for Mother’s Day. Memories and traditions that their families can look back on and reminisce.
My daughter should have her special day as a mother, and my sons need to start making memories with their families. I’ve enjoyed many years of Mother’s Day celebrations as a Mom, but now it’s my children’s turn as parents. Of course, I want to see them, and we will get together, but it may be on Saturday instead of Sunday, or I may not get to have them all over at the same time.
For years when my children were young we would embrace the day and try to do a family activity before my husband and I visited our own mothers. It was usually a long day but looking back I’d never change a thing. We chose to have our own fun together before visiting our parents. This is probably why we have become what we are otherwise refer to as “the original six” (my husband, four children, and I) There is definitely a bond between us that I know will not be broken.
7 Ideas for activities to do on Mother’s Day
Below are some of the activities that we did together on Mother’s Day after the kids prepared my breakfast.
- Theme Park (Great America in our case). The amusement park wasn’t very crowded over Mother’s Day weekend. The kids never waited too long in line to go on a rides.
- The Zoo
- Baseball Game
- Go to a lake and then go on a boat ride
- Golf as a family- we would typically play a scramble
- Cook Outs/with Ice cream for dessert
- Family Bike rides/and get ice cream afterwards
I hope that you and your family enjoy Mothers Day, however and whatever you decide to do. If you have a special way that you shared the holiday or honored your own mother on Mothers Day, I would love to hear about it. Please comment below and let me know.
It’s important that we honor our mothers. I’m very lucky to still have my 92-year-old mother. I’m going to visit her at the memory care facility she lives in and take her for ice cream because the apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree when it comes to liking ice cream.
