When I’ve been asked to babysit my grandchildren, I have never turned down the request. Although, it’s a challenge, I just don’t have the energy it takes to keep up with them. At times I also get nervous, afraid something will happen to them and I’ll have to explain that I failed on my watch. Babysitting Your Grandchildren-8 helpful tips
- Wear loose clothing, you need to be able to bend over, sit down on the floor and pull them out from under tables
- No ties or hooded shirts with strings, they love to pull on them and put them in their mouths
- Sleeves you can roll up easily as you’re always assisting with using the potty or holding them over a sink to wash their messy little hands
- No necklaces or earrings because they will pull them off, I once had a Swarovski crystal necklace ripped off my neck
- Nothing that needs to be dry cleaned as they like to wipe their nose on your shoulder when you’re holding them.
- Stay away from white, no explanation necessary
- Comfortable shoes (I love these from Amazon) you’ll need these for running after toddlers as once they learn to walk they like the game of being chased and can run faster than you can
- Plan an activity to do together such as crafts, games, baking, gardening…this is your bonding time
With all the work it takes to keep them safe and cared for I would never say no to babysitting. They bring so much joy and laughter into our home.
Their pure honesty manages to call attention to every physical flaw I have, not to mention they repeat everything they hear you say. My husband and I laugh for days after they leave. In the aftermath, the toy’s all over the house and the exhaustion you feel will subside, but the special memories you shared together will last a lifetime.
