Are the jeans that you are wearing old? It’s exciting to still fit into a pair of old jeans, but what is not very becoming on a woman is to wear an outdated denim style. Blue jeans have been a fashion staple since the 50’s. Throughout time, denim has had a laid-back casual vibe. Fast forward to today where a pair of dark denim jeans and a statement top are the most popular go-to look for date nights and fun evenings. Is shopping for new jeans intimidating because there are too many choices? What are the best jeans for women over 50? Today, I want to provide you a Shopping Guide for the latest denim styles for Women Over 50.
Decades of styles have come and gone, take time to review what you have in your closet to make sure your look is current.
NYDJ brand offers a slimming panel that holds in your tummy. I own this pair and am really happy with them. NYDJ tend to run a size large so I would suggest you size down from your regular size.
Madewell and Levi’s have styles that are geared toward our midlife figure types.
Best Jeans for Women Over 50
Flare Leg Jeans which is a favorite amongst women in our age group, look great when worn with a low heeled boot. They are still narrow at the knee and tapper out slightly towards the bottom. I would recommend flare legged jeans for when you want to wear those fancier tops and blouses.
Skinny Jeans fit tightly and are often made with some type of stretch. They are also very narrow at the ankle which allows you to wear any shoe type with ease. Long oversized tops, and all types of sweaters, and buttoned-down shirts look great with a pair of skinny jeans.
Boyfriend Cut jeans are loose fitting and baggie. They often are cuffed and look good when worn with athletic shoes. Since this style has a looser fit, I would suggest keeping your top fitted with a classic turtleneck or slim cut t-shirt.
Boot Cut jeans have a straighter, yet loose legged shape that slightly narrows in after the knee. Since the hemline is wider, flats, chunky heals, and low cut booties are favorable shoe choices.
Now let’s talk waistlines. High-rise jeans are a popular look right now. They flatter long waisted body types. If your waistline is shorter, then I would recommend a mid-rise fit where the waistline hits just below the natural waistline.
As for color, both faded and dark denim are stylish choices. Distressed jeans are popular, but they are not for me. The ripped and faded look is cool. However, you need to make sure your jeans fit your personality. Another current look is wearing denim on denim. This would be a denim shirt or jean jacket with your jeans. When doing so just make sure the shades are complimentary to each other.
Denim is always a wise choice when wondering what to wear. Because you can easily dress your jeans either up or down. I’ll take that one step further and say they are magic because they have an extraordinary power to make different looks appear.

Great post. I think I’m a fan of all of those jeans, but probably boot boot cut is my all-time favorite. Love the ones you are modeling here!
