I have been having a wonderful time visiting my grandchildren in Illinois. One of our favorite past times is cooking together. I came across this recipe in a children’s cookbook that I had purchased for my granddaughters earlier this summer. They love to help me in the kitchen, and when it comes to making treats, our time in the kitchen becomes even more special. This recipe for Chocolate Dipped Frozen Banana Bites is simple and takes just minutes to prepare. We made these frozen banana bites before a family BBQ and served them for dessert. I do recommend preparing only what you will eat as the bananas will turn brown and will not keep well. Naturally, this was not a problem with our family as the adults enjoyed them too!
Chocolate Dipped Frozen Banana Bites Ingredients
Makes about 14 bites
- 3 large firm ripe bananas
- 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Topping Options- you can use sprinkles, coconut, ground nuts, or even a favorite cereal
Instructions
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, cut the bananas on the thick side diagonally. Place chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl and only microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time. Once the chocolate is looking almost melted with just a few lumps, don’t microwave it again just stir until it is completely smooth.
Dip half of the banana slice into the chocolate and place on the baking sheet. Sprinkle the chocolate dipped part with your toppings. Place the bananas into the freezer for approximately forty five minutes and serve.
Notes: I needed to transfer the bananas to another plate to fit in to our freezer. I also placed a piece of parchment paper over the bananas while freezing but did not cover tightly.
As you may notice in the photos, I let my granddaughter use a special knife just for children to cut the bananas. This is a great gift for the young chefs in your household as they are made of a nylon like material, but they really cut!
I enjoyed watching my granddaughters get creative and have fun decorating the bananas. Another fun part to making the Chocolate Dipped Frozen Banana Bites is that none of the melted chocolate went to waste when we were finished 😊
