Cold Shoulder Tops
Ok, here’s a fashion term I wasn’t very familiar with but found out about rather quickly, the cold shoulder look.
While doing a little research, I found out that Donna Karan had actually created the cold shoulder style back in 1991- and it had received such bad reviews that she decided to take it out of her collection permanently. Until Liza Minelli wore her cold shoulder style top in Europe and raved about it. After her trip, Liza even asked Donna to turn the style into a gown- which she did and Liza wore to the 1992 Academy Awards.
This breezy style is seen everywhere. You’ll see cold shoulder dresses, tee’s, and blouses. They are flattering and yet they aren’t too revealing which is why they are stylish at any age. You can easily pull this look off. You can bare just a little, yet your arms are covered and if arms tend to be a more of a concern, then this look is for you. Though they have been around for a while now, it’s popularity seems to be hanging in there and they aren’t going anywhere for spring or summer.
Let’s think about this, why do they call them cold shoulder tops? Do they want to indicate that your baring your shoulders will make you chilly? They were seen on sweaters this past winter, so maybe then yes, your shoulders can get cold. I do not own any cold shoulder sweaters so I can’t speak from experience.
You also need to find the right bra so that your straps aren’t showing. This is very important. Racerback bra’s and strapless bras are a must with a cold shoulder.
My thoughts on the style
- Try it for a fun youthful look without exposing too much skin
- Only own one or two pieces because it is trendy and the style may get old
- Own the right bra to wear it with as exposing bra straps is never good
- It’s a great look for both daytime and evening
So, there it is ladies, you can decide how to incorporate the cold shoulder look into your personal style. I say yes to wearing a cold shoulder for summer. Just remember to add a touch of shimmer to your shoulders for the evening.
