At sixty-one years old I have finally accepted that I should stop looking at all the heels in my closet like I’m going to wear them. I, like most women, love shoes, but I have given up thinking that I can wear them without painful regrets.

It’s been five years since I had hip replacement surgery on both my hips. After the surgeries I would look at my heels but never actually wear them. I had trouble letting them go. There was a lot of money invested in my footwear. An event or special occasion would come up and I would put on the heels thinking I could make it through the night but instead I found myself looking for the nearest seat and sitting most of the evening to avoid discomfort.

When I would go out in flats or low heals I noticed I had more fun, I danced, I didn’t think about my feet. So just like I had to accept that when I was in my forties that I needed readers, I accepted that I’m much more pleasant when I have on comfortable shoes.

I found I could wear two and a half-inch heels with comfort. Kitten heals are very much in style right now and I’m thrilled.

I watched a spring runway show and the models were wearing low boots with evening gowns. Low boots are my favorite as they are comfortable and yet make a statement. Right now, you can find low boots in a variety of colors. My daughter is now obsessing over a pair of white boots with a kitten heel. It’s a shame we are not the same size as we could save money sharing.

Well here it is ladies, it’s important to keep your feet comfortable as that somehow works. Keep your feet and mindset in a happy place. However, being comfortable doesn’t mean you have to forego style.
