How do you wear sweaters with winter coats? This is a problem that every woman faces at one time or another. With winter officially upon us as of December 21st we need to find ways to keep warm and sweaters are often the first thing we reach for. Winter isn’t such a terrible thing as warm sweaters make me think about being cozy and comfortable.
Brittany and I both purchased a cozy sweater for our December Ageless Ensemble. We were lucky to have a rare warm and sunny winter day to take a few photos outside. Anytime you have sun in December it’s a win, right?
However, we know that the warmer sunny winter days are few and far between in the Midwest.
With the bulkiness and popular bell sleeves of our sweaters, how do we manage to wear a coat? I have a couple solutions that I am going to share but first let’s take a look at all the sweater styles and how to wear them.
Longer or tunic sweaters look great with leggings or skinny jeans. You can also wrap a belt around them to define your waist and accessorize as we both did with our Something Navy Sweater.
Cable knit sweaters look good with any style jean. Cable knits can also be worn over a pencil skirt or a pleated skirt.
Crop sweaters are nice when paired with higher waisted dress pants and denim.
V-Neck sweaters look great on top of button-down shirts, I’d make sure the shirt is a little oversized and leave it untucked.
Turtleneck sweaters look fine with any just about anything regardless if it’s oversized or fitted.
So many colors to choose from. Of course, we all like to don the holiday colors with shades of red and green. Black, brown, and ivory are very fundamental and easy to pair.
As for me, I love color and like to brighten my day by wearing a colorful sweater. Patterns, sparkle, and stripes are other variations that make sweaters attractive.
Sweaters are meant to be like a warm blanket that you wrap yourself in all day. What could be softer than the feel of Cashmere?
Cashmere sweaters are the most luxurious, but they’re are expensive. Watch for sales and special store promotions to make cashmere more affordable. The Halogen brand by Nordstrom offers a great cashmere piece for a relatively low price.
When it’s time to head out I found that the Duster style coats almost always fit over my bulky sweaters. Capes area fashionable and can also be the solution to keeping yourself from getting arms stuck in your coat. Puffer coats seem to allow a little expansion and can accommodate larger sleeves.
My new favorite are vests as they will work no matter what sleeve style you’re wearing. I especially like vests when I’m driving in a car or shopping as they adjust best to the temperature changes.
Stay warm this winter with the sweater type that you like best. I hope I’ve found some solutions as what to type of coat wear with your sweaters.
