I’m watching my granddaughters while my oldest son and his wife are on a babymoon. For those of you who aren’t familiar with a babymoon, it’s a trip that a couple takes before the birth of their child. Nice isn’t it? Push presents and babymoons, I’m envious, how I wish those were around when I was having children.
Regardless, I wanted to do something fun with my two granddaughters and I found out about fairy hair. Given the obsession with princesses my granddaughters have this was perfect. What I didn’t know is that fairy hair isn’t just for little girls.
What is fairy hair? Get ready to shine!
Fairy hair are iridescent silk extensions put into hair to make it shimmer and shine. Known as fairy hair by my granddaughter or Silk Hair extensions to their adult clientele. The temporary extensions are very soft and subtle and flatter any hair color.
I found a salon in Naples called Roots Studio that offers this lovely technique and set up appointments for the girls. Our Stylist, Beatriz was so sweet and accommodating. She really took her time to show the girls the extensions and let them pick their colors. It only takes about 15-20 minutes to weave in the extensions and depending on the texture of their hair it could last a few months. She did forewarn me that with very fine hair the extensions would not stay in very long.
The girls were very intrigued and excited. Nothing pleases me more than sharing fun experiences with them. Beatrix started with my 6-year-old granddaughter while her very captivated 3 year old sister watched. After the extensions were in, she curled their hair too. My granddaughter was thrilled with the experience and told me she felt magical.
Beatriz informed me that most of her clients were women my age. Well right then and there she had me at hello. Why not try it out? They were subtle yet, fascinating. You see the first time I saw fairy hair was actually on a woman my age. I couldn’t tell if it was part of her highlights. I kept starring with curiosity until I finally asked her why she had sparkly hair.
Should I try Fairy Hair?
The girls wanted me to give it a try, and since I’m always thinking about my blog, I thought this would be something fun to write about. Unlike their iridescent pink and blue, I choose a soft shimmery bronze color for my fairy hair. When Beatriz was finished, I too felt a little magical, just like my granddaughters felt.
It’s not very expensive, about $20 plus, tip and I will certainly do this with my other 4-year-old granddaughter when she comes to visit. I recommend giving fairy hair a try regardless of whether it’s for young ones or yourself. It does make you feel a little enchanting and with my new shimmery hair, I’m suddenly looking forward to a date with my prince charming.
