The past few weeks have been filled with a certain amount of stress being that my husband and I were in Naples during one of the most devastating hurricanes to ever hit the state of Florida. The aftermath of the storm was shocking to see. There were numerous losses and repairs that will take several months to complete. Living without power was our biggest drawback, only slightly ahead of the fact that we did not have working elevators and live in a building on the seventeenth floor. Additionally, our car was destroyed when the parking garage flooded, leaving us without transportation. Taking this all into consideration my husband and I decided to head back to Illinois and stay with family.
We originally planned a trip in early October to babysit our eldest son’s three children while he and his wife enjoyed a four-day getaway. After the storm we decided to leave sooner.
I literally packed in the dark using a small flashlight to find clothing. This was inconvenient, so, I made packing simple. I knew that I needed pieces that would be comfortable enough for babysitting but also wanted a few fun stylish pieces for meeting up with friends or going out to dinner. With that, I created a Fall Capsule Wardrobe with Appleseed’s

Bringing along these Appleseed’s classic pieces made packing an ease. In normal situations, I always make sure to bring layers, as fall weather in the Midwest is always unpredictable. I selected sensible staples such as these Dreamflex Color Comfort Waist Jeans. Their style options are endless, and they fit very well. For reference, I’m wearing the stone color in size 4P. Plus, I needed outfits that allow me to transition from day-time kid activities to date night.

Next, I packed this trendy striped long sleeve tee. I knew I would get good use wearing this underneath sweaters and blazers. And here is my new fall favorite, this denim shirt jacket! I’m wearing it almost every day in place of a traditional jean jacket. I like the new longer length and find that it is roomy enough to layer a sweater underneath.
Another reliable piece I brought along was this black wool blazer, it is perfect for when you want to elevate your look from an everyday casual style. The buttons add a little formality that provide a pulled together style.
Lastly, I added in this cozy ivory zipped sweater. I’m wearing it right now as I write this blog. Today the weather started out in the 70’s, but an afternoon cold front and rain caused me to feel chilled. I needed a little extra warmth, and this soft feeling sweater feels great.
Finding pieces that coordinate together help take the ease out of getting dressed, especially while traveling. You want to invest in functional fashion that you can wear in endless ways. I feel that each of these pieces did just that.
Overall, I’m having fun watching our grandchildren, but I do have a word of advice about babysitting, and that is that four days are my limit! Anything more has me counting sleeps until their parents return.
