Disclosure- I was recently sent complimentary undergarments by True & CO to try out. As always, the thoughts and opinions I express below are my own.
The Unmentionables
I remember as a child just hearing the word underwear would make me blush. Yet, here I am today writing about my life in underwear. As women, we have different underwear needs based on the phase of life we are in. In our younger free-spirited years, we choose sexy lingerie. Then came childbearing years in which our bodies required nursing bras and larger stretchy underwear. During menopause, our bodies developed bulges. Shifting belly fat added inches to our waistlines. Just like the clothes we wear, our underwear needs to adapt to lifestyle and physical the changes our bodies have.
Let’s start with the Granny Panties
I don’t care how old you are, panty lines are not attractive. While trying to find a solution I tried thongs, they worked to diminish the panty lines, but I found them very uncomfortable. With the new high waisted pant styles, we now need higher waisted panties. Yes, lower rise panties are getting traded out for those infamous granny pants. Before you judge, let me explain that the newer mid-rise and high-waisted panties are no longer matronly looking. Most importantly they are extremely comfortable and isn’t that what women really want?
Giving True & Co a try
I recently tried the hipster panty from True & Co They are lightweight and delicate which makes them feel like a second skin. I’m well past the phase of my life where I settle for undergarments that pinch, tug, and feel scratchy. It seems like clothing companies are now getting the message that women aren’t going to settle for anything less than satisfactory and listening to our needs. Many of the newer lingerie companies are women owned and that may be partly the reason we are getting a voice. Lingerie companies are accepting that they need to offer attractive options in various shapes and sizes. Also, we are finding that not all body shape wear must feel like we are squeezing ourselves into something three sizes too small.
Finding a The Right Bra
With a focus on comfort, women are also buying what makes them feel confident. Meaning they do not want to be distracted thinking about underwear malfunctions such as a bra’s that rides up, skin pinching clasps, and overflowing cups.
For me in finding the right bra, my biggest issue was with my bra straps slipping. I’m constantly reaching to adjust my straps. Many times, while taking photos for the blog, I would find that my straps were peeking out and the photo could not be used.
We all have different needs when it comes to bras. True & Company, which is a woman owned lingerie company, offers a fit test to determine your size. Once you take the test it then selects bra types and styles that work for you as an individual. I recently tried their racerback bra and I found it to be very comfortable with built in cups that stayed in place, and support without underwires.
This was especially helpful to me during golf. There are a few of these virtual lingerie shops available and they seem to all want to cater to individual needs and body types.
Women our age should not sacrifice our comfort. However, this doesn’t mean that we have to wear something less attractive. We all want a under garments that are functional and feel good, but we should not have to let go of pretty. When you’re wearing something that is comfortable and looks good, your demeanor changes in a positive way. Many of these new online companies are offering both practical and pretty. I recommend that we all indulge ourselves in lingerie that properly fits and feels like a second skin. I promise you’ll not just be more comfortable you’ll also experience a confidence boost about your body.
