Hi, Brittany here! I’m Nancy’s daughter and I’m sharing a few of my favorite toys for children under the age of 5. I know that shopping for kids or grandkids can sometimes be a little difficult, and I wanted to provide a guide of a few products that we like. I have two children who turned 4 and 1 this month. We love activities, arts & crafts and good quality toys that we can keep around the house. The Melissa & Doug toys & puzzles are favorites. You can never go wrong with books. Don’t forget to write a special note on the inside for your grandchild or child. It’s so special to look back on. Of course spending good quality time with kids is always best. Sometimes a great gift option is an experience that you can do with them- like a museum, aquarium, zoo, musical. But I will admit, it is so fun and exciting to watch little ones open up gifts!

Gift & Toy Guide for Children Under 5
Highlight “High 5” Magazine
Highlights Magazine was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember looking forward to receiving a copy in the mail each month. My mother in law purchased a subscription for my daughter Emilea and we love it. Highlights “High 5” is geared toward younger children ages 3-6 and the The Highlight magazine may be better suited for children 5-8. We currently have the High 5 subscription and enjoy the fun activities and stories. The magazine is a great activity for us to do together especially while my younger daughter is napping.
KidKraft Kitchen
Since we don’t have a specific toy room, all of our toys are currently in our living room, which means if it all possible, I do appreciate when toys match our décor. We have this white kitchen set and love it. You can purchase different cooking or baking sets for the kitchen additionally. You do have to put it together, which may be intimidating, but we (or Steve my husband) was able to do it rather easily…just don’t wait until last minute
Melissa & Doug Stamp Set
Crafts make great toys and activities. The ink in the stamp pad is washable. We got it on our walls and clothes and it did wash out easily.
Melissa & Doug Wooden Birthday Cake
Cute wooden toy set. Candles can be added or removed via Velcro and the cake can be “cut” as well.
Juno Valentine Magical Shoes
Fashion, Magic and Girl Power at it’s finest. This children’s book by Instagram’s Head of Fashion, Eva Chen is on our wish list. They have also partnered with children’s clothing site Janie & Jack to provide the “looks” of the story for both Mom & Kids
Wooden Rainbow Stacking Set
A friend of mine has this rainbow set in her playroom and I’m obsessed. It’s a great toy for little ones to learn and observe the colors of the rainbow. It is a little on the pricey side, but it makes for a great décor piece too!
Coco Chanel Book
Ameila Earheart Book
The little people big dream book series is adorable and such a fun way to teach an empowering history lesson to a little one!
Magna Tile Stacking Set
I love Magna Tiles! They are so great for the imagination. I love seeing what my daughter designs. You can always add to the set too in the future.
White Art Easel
A double sided Easel and Dry Erase board. I keep this in my kitchen
PJ Masks Creativity Art Bucket
My 4 year old daughter is really into PJ Masks right now and crafts. This combination is perfect.
Alex Discovery Button Art
match and snap the chunky buttons to the pictures. The buttons are a great size and help build hand eye coordination. My 1 year old has played with this toy and in my opinion it is fine (it does state it is for 18 months or older).
Melissa & Douglas Stacking Train
A versatile train set that allows kids to build, stack and roll- and helps with their developmental skills too!
Mega Blocks
Fun Larger Stacking Blocks. Suitable for 12 months and up. I recently found out my brother Rj is still a huge fan.
V-Tech Write & Learn | Magnetic Drawing board
This magnetic drawing board is also a speaking toy that helps with letters & numbers. We bring this along in the car with us on long road trips.
Melissa & Doug Wooden Pizza Set
As with the cake set above, you can create your own, sausage, mushroom and/or pepperoni pizza. The pizza is velcro and your child can “cut” with a pizza cutter.
V-TechPull & Sing Puppy
V Tech toys are awesome and have different programs and options to help teach colors, numbers and songs.
Dory Bicycle Helmet
a cute helmet for your toddler or preschooler.
Chomp & Clamp Alligator Wooden Push Toy
Very sturdy and helps with walking and balance. Worked for Em!
Guess Who? Game
A fun family game to play. The pictures are a good size and having a child 3 or older help “guess who” is so fun
Play Doh Frost n Fun Cake Decorating
Play Doh is always great to have around your home. It’s fairly easy for clean up. Kids love making different shapes and the baking set is something that I thought would be fun.
Globber 3 Wheel Adjustable Scooter with LED Light Up Wheels
Adjustable handlebar so it can change depending on the child’s height. Don’t forget a helmet!
