How to Wear Metallics

Wearing metallics are no longer reserved for evening wear. If you look around, you will see casual every day outfits with tasteful hints of shine on clothing every where. This past weekend I flew to Chicago and going through security I lit up like a Christmas tree! I was wearing my white jeans, a tee, and sneakers. However, my tee shirt had a few shiny black beads, and my shoelaces were rose gold metallic. It was enough glimmer for TSA to pull out their magic wand and start scanning my clothing.

For years the most popular metals were in silver, gold, and bronze, this season we are seeing the entire box of crayons! Shimmery emeralds, ruby, and sapphire blue are making their debut for fall and winter. The shine is just in clothing but in accessories too, such as purses, shoes, and scarfs.

How to Wear Metallics

Metallics no longer scream disco like they may have back in the seventies. Today, I like to say that a subtle shimmer adds a touch of class. Metallic is the ultimate neutral, you can add a touch of metal to any color and elevate it’s look. I feel that metallics offer a feeling of luxury. Just look around any home decor store, you will find throws woven with metallic yarns, decorative pillows with a shiny sheen, charger plates, and tablecloths. There is no doubt about this metal mania we are seeing now, it’s coming in hot! 

I do understand that shine may not meet everyone’s individual style but there are quiet and subtle ways that you can introduce metallics into your every day lifestyle without being too showy. I did this with my with my metallic shoelaces, it’s a step above the norm and an inexpensive way to have fun with a trend.

Accessories will also have a longer life span than most clothing. For example, a pewter clutch or bag will can get you through years without looking dated. It’s a time to let your life shine brightly just avoid doing so when you’re about to get on airplane.
