Summertime stripes are a casual favorite. We are seeing bolder vertical stripes on wide legged pants, skirts, and maxi dresses. Smaller stripes are popular on this season’s shoes, scarfs, purses, and other accessories.
How to style your stripes
The key to wearing stripes is proportion. Take into consideration your height and the stripe width. If you are on the petite side, stick to thinner striped patterns. Whereas if you’re tall, you can pull off wearing bolder eye-catching stripes.
Larger stripes work best when you coordinate them with other solid colored pieces. Pinstripes are more versatile and you can match pinstripes with floral prints, or polka dots. Keep in mind that vertical stripes elongate as opposed to horizontal stripes. If you are wearing horizontal stripes, then break up the pattern a bit. You can add a belt at the waistline or match with a solid color top or bottom as shown with the red jacket I’m wearing .
Striped tops are usually seen in horizontal striped patterns. Horizontal striped shirts are the easiest way to wear stipes. There are several ways to style your striped tops or shirts.
At the office, you can layer a striped top under a solid color jumper or a shift dress. You can also wear a long sleeved striped shirt underneath a button-down shirt, just keep a few front buttons open, and roll up your sleeves a bit. Striped shirts also look terrific when paired with jeans, just add a blazer and it pulls the look together perfectly.
If you’re going to wear stripes with patterns, you will need to find a pattern that has the same color in it as the stripes. Note to remember once again, choose a smaller pattern print with a larger stipe and a larger pattern print with smaller stripes.
As for accessories use the same guidelines, coordinating the color of your striped patterned accessory with the same colors of the outfit you are wearing.
Stripes can be very nautical looking and that is why they’re a popular look for summer. They are a perfect for summer fashion but do not forget about the colder weather. Pinstriped wool pants or skirts look very classy when paired with plaids. However, you choose to wear stripes they always make a always classic stylish statement.
