One thing that can instantly age a woman is dated make up. It’s easy to forget about refreshing your look and good make-up is not cheap. Also, if you are like me and you don’t like to waste, it is tempting to not buy new make-up until what you have runs out. The decision to hold off is never in our best interest. Today, I’m sharing how to keep your makeup up to date.
You need to stay current with new makeup trends, if not, you could risk looking like you’re stuck in a time capsule from a James Bond Movie.
There are many ways to learn new tips on applying makeup | Try visiting a makeup counter for makeup application tips
The easiest step is to stop at a makeup counter in a department store or local shop. Many will offer samples free of charge. Many beauty counters in will provide tutorials on how to apply your makeup or will even help you apply makeup before a big event. Some stores may require a small fee or require a purchase.
I feel fortunate as a good friend of mine sold make up in department store. It was easy to experiment with new products and visit with her at the same time.
My very first professional make up application was before my wedding in 1980. I went to Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon on Michigan Avenue inChicago. It was a wonderful experience and I learned many make-up tips thatI’ve used through the years. I do feel that scheduling an appointment and spending time with a makeup artist is very helpful in maintaining an up to date look.
As the seasons change so should your make up | In cooler weather you may want to wear foundation, in the warmer temperatures try Tinted Moisturizer
Last year, my daughter Brittany gave me a gift certificate to a local beauty Apothecary, Odalisque. I happened to stop in when the owner, Bridget, was present, and they weren’t very busy. As I sat in her chair, Bridget encouraged me to take videos so that I could remember how to use her techniques, which was very helpful. I learned a new technique for applying eyeliner and eyeshadow.
During the makeup tutorial, I learned a new technique for applying eyeliner. After creating small dots very close to the lash line, you then use a small eyeliner brush to blend the line together. This creates a softer line for the eye versus the harsher look that drawing a traditional line with a pencil can create.
After the tutorial, I made a significant purchase in addition to the gift certificate. I was very pleased with the experience and excited to try my new products at home. After I went home, I had even changed my mind about a lipstick and the exchange was not an issue.
My Favorite Department Store Find | Charlotte Tilbury
I have a few department store favorites that I’m very loyal too as well. Brittany recently introduced me to Charlotte Tilbury Cosmetics. I quickly have became a fan. I’m very happy with the Magic Day Cream which is a rich creamy moisturizer, and The Wonder Glow and Flawless Filter, which both give you that subtle glowing look, and yes, I have and currently use all three of these. If you go to the Charlotte Tilbury website they offer instructional videos on each individual product. I found these tutorials to be informative.
My everyday makeup essentials | Keep it Simple
My go to daily make up routine is concealer, blush, and lipstick. I usually skip eye make up unless I have special plans. This is what I call my every day “no makeup natural look.” I always switch up my lipstick depending on what I wear or where I’m going. What can I say, applying lipstick gives me confidence.
I guess it’s obvious that my daughter has been influential keeping my makeup current and I’m very fortunate to have her.
Most important, if you’re looking to enhance your overall look, remember it starts at the top, which is your face and skin care regime of course. You must not overlook this detail as it’s not just about what you are wearing to remain stylish.
