Here we are, well into the second week of quarantine and I have a feeling I will be spending a lot more time at home than I had originally anticipated. In the meantime, I’ve accepted the reality that I need to move forward. Slowly I’m starting to and go back to living my life in this now different world. At the start of staying at home, I did not apply much make-up, decided to let my hair air dry instead of styling it, and I stayed in loungewear longer than I should have.
Today, I have decided I’m back! I like it better when I get dressed with a purpose. I feel better about myself, especially when I pass a mirror. The drawback is my beauty routine is going to rely solely on me. Unfortunately, I can’t make my next hair appointment. Spa appointments need to be postponed, meaning no facials, manicures, pedicures, or luxuries we all may have enjoyed in the past. It is now up to us.
Favorite Beauty Products to Use at Home
Not much has changed with my at home facial routines I still do the at home facial peels a couple times a month. It’s a good habit to form.
Since we are having to spend time inside, now is the time to try apply the tan drops I talked about that give your face a little bronze glow.
I swear by using a neck cream and with my son’s wedding approaching in July, I’m making extra sure to keep up with applying it daily.
My Clarisonic is probably the most effective beauty tool that I personally have used for the last ten years. You can read more about my other must have beauty tools (here) I like the way the Clarisonic cleans my face. And, you can feel that it helps to exfoliate the dead skin cells. I use it around 3 times a times a week. It’s currently $169 at Sephora with free shipping.
As you may know, the Charlotte Tilbury products are one of my favorite makeup brands to use. I also really like her magic day cream as well. It gives you a glowing complexion.
And lastly, in an effort to stay moisturized and hydrated, I find this lip balm to do the trick.
Looking to keep busy, I started to go through all my free cosmetic samples. I always enjoyed gifts with purchases. I’m easily lured in when free cosmetics are available. Most of the time I stick to my favorite beauty products. With extra time on my hands I’m going to start slowly introducing new products. Also, if you’re not a fan of a certain sample, a friend of mine recommended using face cream samples as hand creams.
Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Even if you venture outside for an hour, it’s important to wear sunscreen. Two products I received as samples and found that I liked were Skinceuticles Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50 and Elta MD Broad Spectrum spf 40. Living in Florida, I want a good sunscreen for every day. Naturally, when I’m going to be in the sun for a longer period of time I use a higher spf. For everyday I prefer something that is lightweight. The skinceuticles is practically transparent and it contains zinc oxide. It’s very fluid like, so shaking it before each use is recommended. It’s great if you want to apply makeup over it because it’s very lighweight.
The Elta MD is more moisturizing, and with dry skin I really need this. Elta MD also has hyaluronic acid which helps plump aging skin. I first heard about this brand several years ago and have watched its popularity grow. There are many types of MD Elta sunscreens available. At DermStore they help you to find the one that is right for you by evaluating your skin type, where you live, and lifestyle.
Keeping all this in mind I think I have a good solid routine to maintain healthy skin.
For my body I still use a dry brush to rid of dead skin. My biggest beauty concern right now is my hair. I don’t think I’m confident enough to cut or color my own hair. However, if things do not change, I’ll be writing about that too!
