When it comes to keeping a good nighttime skin routine, it does not matter what age you are. Just like you, your skin also needs beauty rest. We all know very well that beauty sleep is not a myth. But, you may not know that your skin needs a nighttime routine to allow it to fully benefit from the products you are applying. At night, it’s crucial to implement a good nighttime care routine to allow you skin to flourish. Because, as you sleep, your skin renews and regenerates it’s cells.
Your skin changes not only changes as you age but with the seasons as well. If you are looking to find the best night cream, the answer will vary. You’ll want to keep in mind what your skin needs at that particular time. This will help to find which night cream works best to keep your skin in harmony and looking healthy.
Night creams work differently than day creams. Day creams may have sunscreen to protect us from the sun. Night creams contain more concentrated ingredients that may cause sensitivity in the sunlight. The same goes for neck creams as opposed to facial moisturizers. Some of the ingredients found in night creams are geared to repair our skin. Our skin’s turn over varies and slows down with age. Using night creams with antioxidants, vitamins, peptides, and retinol will help our skin cells regenerate. Some night creams ingredients work to plump and moisturize the skin. While other ingredients will target wrinkles, dark spots, and firming.

There are several different skin types. Finding the best care for your skin may require a trip to the dermatologist. Many years ago, I visited a dermatologist in Chicago who sat down with me and wrote out a personalized skin care routine for my normal to dry skin. This visit was highly informative and taught me many things about my dry skin type. Below is what she recommended for my evening time skin are routine.
My nighttime skin routine
Since my doctors visit, the products I used have changed because of my skins needs and moving to a warmer climate. However, I have always tried to maintain the same fundamentals while getting ready for bed. That being cleanse, tone, serum, moisturize.
I am currently using Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate. Next, I follow with their Super Restorative Night Age Spot Correcting Replenishing Cream. The cream is rich and luxurious feeling, and my skin still feels hydrated in the am.
I like to rotate that with another Night Cream Andalou Reverstol Q10 Night Repair Cream. This cream is more budget friendly and available on Amazon. This one has velvety feeling and contains a stem cell complex.
Before you Cleanse…
Before we end, I want to ask, have you ever tried a cleansing balm? My daughter Brittany has recently introduced me to the concept. Brittany, who has sensitive and dry skin, has been using this Elemis Cleansing Balm for the last 3 months. I know that another step in your cleansing routine may not sound appealing however, the results are worth it. Using the moisturizing balm provides your face a fresh clean slate. Plus, it really allows your nighttime products to do their job and really go deep into your skin.
To start, the cleansing balm is used before your regular cleanser. You apply the balm directly to your face to remove impurities and melt your make up off. Next, use a damp wash cloth to wipe away. Follow with your regular cleanser and nighttime routine. The benefits of using the balm allow you to breakdown dirt and oil on your skin. Not to mention, it is very moisturizing. When followed by your cleanser and moisturizer that is tailored to your skin type, you will really see the benefits!
Though we all can get very tired at the end of the day, I encourage you to not lose the opportunity to cleanse your skin at night. You’ll want to keep your skin clean so that it may regenerate and revitalize itself. Take advantage of this time to repair and restore our skin. A good night cream will make a difference in your skin’s appearance over time. In time the results of a good night time routine are well worth the effort.

A good night time cleansing routine is definitely important! I’ve been cleaning my skin by 8 pm these days to make sure I’m not too tired at the end of the day. The products you are using sound fabulous! And I love your PJ set!

Nancy,
I enjoyed reading your nighttime skincare routine.
I agree with you that it is so important to switch from daytime face cream to a nighttime one.
As I have gotten older I have incorporated using serums in my daily routine too.
I have never tried a cleansing balm! I will have to check yours out!
