Pure Natural Oils create glowing and hydrated skin.
Facial Oils are everywhere right now, and their price points are all over the map. I decided to test out a few natural oils on my own to see what would work best for my skin. I was curious if I could find an inexpensive alternative to the department store brands.
First, I investigated the various types of oils and their benefits. Next, I found that shopping for natural oils at stores like Fruitful Yield and Whole Foods were much less expensive than cosmetic brands.
The oils that I found that worked best for me:
- Argan Oil- considered a dry oil. Absorbs easily and is good for hair and skin.
- Vitamin E Oil- Helps repair skin. Works well when mixed with Vitamin C.
- Rose Hip Oil-has antioxidants and works on dark spots. Rose hip oil is also a calming oil that helps with redness.
- Vitamin C -helps with protecting skin from the suns’ UVA and UVB rays and has antioxidants. Vitamin C is especially good to apply under a sunscreen before heading outdoors.
- Coconut Oil- Great for hair and skin, I mix coconut oil with my body lotion. Apply your body lotion then place about a teaspoon of oil onto your palms and rub together. Apply over your body lotion, allow a few minutes to absorb before getting dressed.
- Grape Seed Oil-another source of vitamin E and helps with dry skin and is also a great option to mix with body lotion. Grape seed oil is considered a dry oil and will absorb into your skin quickly.
When you are shopping for natural oils, choose what suits your needs. Apply sparingly by putting a few drops on your figures then rubbing them together and patting lightly on your face. I usually rub the extra into my cuticles or on the backs of my hands.
My Current Routine
I have been using a combination of all the above oils for years and they work for me.
My current morning routine is to wash my face when I wake, then apply the oils. Right now, I’m using a combination of Rose hip oil and Vitamin E oil. After they are applied, I then apply a light moisturizer and keep that on until I shower. I like to think that the steam from a hot shower helps the product penetrate better.
Now, I did picture SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum above. I love this serum and haven’t been able to find a natural alternative that has the same results. It contains Vitamin C and helps to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays. A little bit goes a long way. I make sure to include the serum in my routine when planning on being in the sun. I apply the serum then and then add my sunscreen on top.
Keep in Mind Your Personal Skin Care Needs
Please keep in mind that I am not a doctor, nor do I know about your personal skin care needs. I strongly advise seeing a dermatologist on a regular basis to guide you and make decisions as to what is best for your personal skin type.
When you shop for any of these oils make sure you are getting pure oil without any added ingredients. I know there are several high-end cosmetic brands that offer some very nice smelling oil combinations for glowing skin. They are very luxurious and come in beautiful packaging. I have just chosen to find my oils in a pure form at a health food store and spend a little less. However, if your budget allows you the splurge, then treat yourself. My favorite serum or face oil to splurge on is the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic
If you try using the oils on your face and find it’s not for you, they will certainly make a great additive to your body lotion for extra moisture, especially with cooler weather approaching.
By the way, the grapeseed oil and the coconut oil can be used in cooking and can tolerate high heat which is good for sautéing food.
Cheers!
