Spring Trend- Off the Shoulder Dress
With warmer weather right around the corner (hopefully!) it’s time to start thinking about warmer weather style. Off the shoulder dresses are easy and perfect for a casual date night look.
Donna Karan was a master at making women feel feminine and dressing women of all shapes, sizes and ages from Demi Moore, Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz, Kim Kardashian, Hilary Clinton, Taylor Swift, Sarah Jessica Parker (remember the nude dress from the Sex and the City opener?) and Jennifer Hudson. What was familiar in her styling was exposing a woman’s shoulder. Donna Karan had even famously said shoulders ‘are the best part of a woman’s body. Shoulders do not age’
A bare shoulder is subtly sexy without revealing too much. And as Ms. Karan so bluntly put it: “It’s the one place that is perfect on every woman’s body. No one ever says, ‘I have fat shoulders.’
I do have a few off the shoulder tops and dresses of my own. I like the style and the look. They’re fashionable and of can be very flattering. Off shoulder tops are feminine looking and look great when pairing with jeans. I’ve also seen many short cotton dresses for daytime- like the one I am wearing on this night out with my husband. What is great about this style is that it’s not just an evening look. It’s perfect for night or day!
I found this off the shoulder dress on sale at Nordstrom Rack- it’s a Max Studio Dress.
You can shop the look and style below:
I do feel that the down side to this off the shoulder style is that it limits movement with your arms. I felt a little restricted when trying to raise my arms. Yes, that could be an issue if you’re going somewhere that you need to put a little effort into your movement and raising your hands al lot. Think about a concert, or waiving your hand to get the waiter to bring you another cocktail.
Will you try this style this summer? Let me know! And remember, as Donna said- if you look good, you feel good.
