I was recently asked by a local shop, Gelato & Co ,in downtown Naples to participate in a contest by creating a recipe using their delicious tasting pumpkin gelato. They had my attention just at the mention of pumpkin! Plus, who doesn’t love gelato? What is it about pumpkin spice that gets every one so excited? Growing up in Illinois, fall became my favorite time of year. I love everything fall has to offer, the autumn colors, the aroma of slow cooked food, and of course, the smell of pumpkin! The pumpkin spice cult following is rapidly growing and people are getting very creative to get their fix. I pondered over what to make and quickly became inspired by a recipe I found on The Cookie Rookie. Below is my version of a pumpkin flavored cocktail.
It’s my take of a White Russian cocktail using Pumpkin Gelato. I decided to name it “Spice Up Your Life” because that is just what pumpkin spice does. This cocktail has a silky, rich creamy texture. The amount of gelato you use will determine its thickness. The rim is made with cinnamon, sugar, and pumpkin spice and graham crackers. Finally, it is topped with fresh whipped cream and a cinnamon stick. If you love pumpkin pie, then you no doubt will enjoy this trendy and tasty beverage. The recipe for a pumpkin flavored cocktail will serve two and takes just a few minutes to prepare. A fabulous way to impress your guests throughout the holiday season.
Pumpkin Flavored Cocktail Spice up Your Life
For the Rim
1 teaspoon of pumpkin spice
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon sugar
3 tablespoons crushed graham crackers
Mix all the above together and place on a flat dish. Dip the rim of the glass in water and then into the spice mixture to coat the rim
For The Drink
2-3 small scoops of Gelato & Co Pumpkin gelato
3 ounces of vodka
1 ½ ounces of Kahlua
1-2 ice cubes
Mix everything above in a blender, then pour into prepared glasses over ice and top with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick if desired.
