Golf is a sport for life. I’ve been playing golf for almost thirty years. You’d think that by now, I would be a good golfer. However, that is not the case. The reason I keep playing is not at all about my handicap or the numbers that I jot down on my scorecards. I found my passion and love for the game because of the friendships I’ve formed and the mishaps I’ve laughed and reminisced about at the 19th hole. This is why I get a thrill when my golf cart approaches the first tee. One can only anticipate what will happen on the course. Skill is an advantage, but it’s also the lucky bounces and the balls that almost made it into the hole that keeps me swinging until the last putt rolls into the hole.
When I first began to play golf, I learned how with other women like me that were also beginners. I knew very little about the game, so much to the fact that I showed up at our country club for my first lesson wearing suede sandals and a two-piece silk short outfit. This was for a lesson I took with my girlfriend, who came to learn straight from the pool in her bathing suit and cover-up and her barefoot toddler tagging alongside. I can’t imagine what the golf pro said about us when he returned to the clubhouse.
I started by playing in a nine-hole league, and that year I won the C Flight with a low score of 65. I was proud of my accomplishment. Once while on the course, my girlfriend hit her ball toward a foursome in front of us, and I yelled fore. “Thank you!” She said, “I couldn’t remember the number we are supposed to say” True story, and it still makes us laugh to this day.
I began my obsession with golf for several reasons, I liked being out in nature, I was getting exercise, and I was learning a hobby that my husband and three sons were all obsessed with playing. So I played as often as I could, many times running off the ninth green to meet the school bus without even removing my golf shoes, which back then were cleats.
Several years and of rounds of golf later, I played in two ladies’ leagues and on a ladies’ team that played competitively with other local clubs. I played golf at least four times a week. As always, it was important to me to have the proper clothing. Unfortunately, back then, women’s golf clothing had too many restrictions about the length of shorts and shirts having sleeves; the clothing was all one style, very basic and quite frumpy looking.
PXG women’s apparel review
This is why I’m excited to share my PXG women’s apparel review from their 2023 spring collection. Their line is far from basic with its fun, and edgy vibe. PXG clothing is available now in trendy colorways and made to be interchangeable. Which I love, because you can build your wardrobe and mix and match styles. They offer three different fabric weights for comfort on and off the course. This season the must-have colors are Pink and Saguaro green. The green is a shade similar to a tall cactus, which is also in their logo. Also, PXG logos are strategically placed and hidden on collars and sleeves.
I’m wearing the varsity sweater and pleated skirt. I also have the fit and flare dress that I will pair with this sweater. Their sizes run smaller than some other golf brands. I recommend, if you are in between sizes, to size up. The skort is lightweight, and I liked how the pleats flounced in the wind.
My checkered skort has a fun logo placement, and the angle and cut are unique compared to traditional golf skorts.
This collection is not the usual traditional golf style we are familiar with wearing, and that is why I like it. Overall, I feel sassy and confident in my new PXG golf clothes, and that said, you certainly need your confidence when heading out to play golf.

Reading this brought back many happy memories. We played as a family when my kids were growing up and it was such a fun way to spend time together. I’ve never played 18 holes, not sure if I’ve completed 9, but the time with my kids and husband was priceless!

This is exactly why I started to play Michele, my three sons played all summer long. If I wanted to spend time with them, I needed to join them playing. Plus, I drove the cart and they didn’t have to walk 🙂 I was happy how it all worked out and I found a new hobby.

Hello Jess,
You really should try to get out on a course and play. Just being out in nature is very therapeutic and its good exercise. I sometimes play alone and enjoy the peacefulness. Please don’t hesitate because you think you need to be good at it, it’s really all about the experience.
All the Best,
Nancy
