Look # 1 – Layering Camel Coat
Now more than ever we are seeing Camel Coats worn with more versatility than any other color coat. Why? Because a camel colored coat can be worn many different ways and provide different looks. You can go for a preppy look, experiment with being very avant chic, or go for a classic and simple minimalist look. How many other coats give you the option to change up your street style like that?
The color is so neutral it can be paired easily with just about anything or any color you wear. Camel coats are not something new as they have been a classic essential piece that has pulled together many stylish ensembles for years. They can be worn with denim jeans and boots, or with dresses and heels. However one look that I’ve seen popping up on celebrities is layering with camel coats. This was something that I thought I would experiment with and I was pleasantly surprised that I liked the look. I received a camel coat for Christmas from my daughter Brittany and decided to try layering a few pieces underneath to see if I liked the look for me.
I happened to have a reversible faux fur vest that I slipped on under the coat and not only did I like the look, I knew instantly pairing the two would give me extra warmth on those extremely cold days.
Look # 2- Layering a Camel Coat with Leather Vest
Next, I pulled out a black leather vest and tried on the coat. Jackpot for me as this was another new look that I liked!
I happened to have both the fur vest and the leather vest already but for those of you looking to play around with this look, you can also find denim toppers at Nordstrom that you can slip on to look like you’re wearing a jean jacket under a coat or blazer. I found this a little nostalgic as I thought about “dickies”, remember those from the sixties?
Look # 3 & #4 – adding in pastel colors
As for purchasing a camel coat I think it is well worth your investment, not just because of the versatility but also the neutral color can take you from winter right into spring. You know those cold brisk March and April days when you still need a coat and your tired of winter’s dark colors? Those are the days when I put away my thicker wool scarfs and top my coats with oversized spring and pastel looking colored scarfs. Doing so gives me the warmth I need with a coat while a beautifully floral pattered scarf freshens up the look by declaring winter is over.
Probably now is the best time if you’re looking to purchase winter outerwear as most coats are being marked down for clearance. Most importantly if you are shopping around, make sure that the sleeves on your coat are a little big in width as you want to be able to layer underneath. I recommend owning at least one coat with larger sleeves for that sole purpose. I hope to enjoy this coat for many years and also have fun with wearing it many ways.
Thank you again Brittany for the thoughtful gift!
