Going to a football game?
Headed to a tailgate? I am sure you are excited to be tailgating with family and friends, you probably are concerned about what to wear, right? How do you dress appropriately for a full day outdoors? From someone who has been to quite a few football games and tailgates, let me offer a few easy tips to help you prepare.
Fall in the Midwest brings us the ever-changing weather, cool temperatures in the morning/evening and warmer (if we’re lucky!) temps during the day. Being warm and comfortable is key!
Five Easy Tips for Dressing for a football game
- Dress in layers– it’s easy to adjust to the temperature if you have few options. Wear a t-shirt or tunic over a sweater. Pair a logo tee shirt with a light jacket. Wearing anything that can help you adjust to the changing temperatures will help. Depending on the weather, you may want to add a third layer as well. You can check online to see if your seats are in the sun or shade, this is so helpful! 60 degrees in the sun is very different than 60 degrees in the shade.
- Pockets! Here’s a little tip, try to wear a jacket or vest with pockets so you can avoid (if possible) bringing in a purse. Military jackets typically have roomy pockets. Those pockets are great to store sunglasses, lipsticks, small wallet, keys, etc. Unfortunately, the world we live in brings tough rules on what you are allowed to bring in to a game. Purses must be very small. Sometimes it’s just not worth the gamble on your handbag. Trust me, my mom had to miss the start of a game once because her bag was too big, and let’s just say my dad wasn’t thrilled about the idea of going back to the car.
- Clear Bag– If you want to bring more items into a game, you do have the option to bring them inside a clear tote or bag. Most stadiums will sell these bags just outside the stadium if you forget to bring yours. There are also cute options you can buy online. Check out this reasonable option, or this option available in a variety of colors.
- Closed Toe Shoes- wearing closed toed shoes is so important for keeping your feet warm during the day. Concrete stadium floors do not help. A low-heeled bootie or gym shoe is perfect and cute option. Recently purchased these no-show socks that are comfy and stay put all day.
- Color! So, you’re wearing layers, dressing for the weather and have your shoes, but how do you show your favorite team you’re rooting for them? Just add in touches of color to your look. Brittany chose to add an orange sweater for the Chicago Bears game. Plus, it’s a fall color for those of you reading our other posts
Dressing for a game can be fun. Keep in mind that you will want to dress in layers, have a jacket with large pockets, clear or small bag. And lastly, don’t forget to keep your feet warm & dry.
Above all, enjoy rooting your team on this season!
