What to wear to a holiday party?
Now that It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and you have rsvp’d to a party, what do you wear?
The last thing you want to do is show up either under dressed or overdressed. In that case you’d have to make a quick call that you have to leave for another party and Run Rudolph Run.
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year when everyone has that festive feeling so that is why we need to step it up a bit and wear your party favorites when attending a holiday party.
First, you need to clarify a few key factors when deciding what to wear.
Who is hosting the party?
Business Party
Keep in mind that you do not want to make poor fashion choices while attending your or your spouses holiday party. You should always remember that you are dressing for success. That means nothing too exposed, nothing too bare, and nothing too sheer. You can however, wear color, choose something sequined, or make an impression with a pretty statement piece such as a purse or piece of jewelry.

Neighbor & Friend Party
Attending a holiday party with your neighbors and friends. Have fun, and layer on the luxe. Then, it’s Silver Bell’s and shiny lapels.
Family Event
Attending an event with your family and grandchildren? Typically family holiday events tend to be a bit more casual and comfortable, like Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
Where is the event?
If your holiday party is at a restaurant or country club then do not be afraid to call the venue and ask what the attire might be. They may be able to give you input on what is being served or the décor and that can help you decide the right ensemble.
When your holiday party is at someone’s home, then you still need to do your research, as I’ve been to friend’s homes for parties that were very formal and then there were parties that were relaxed and casual. I still like to think that this is a holiday party and you’re paying a compliment to the host by dressing up and showing them that their party is special.
How to bring it all together for this Winter Wonderland of celebration?
Think key pieces
Velvet, Shiny Satin, Sequins, fabrics such as these exclaim, It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Feeling a little fashion forward? You can pair a sequin skirt with a holiday graphic tee for a dressy casual look.
Deck the Halls, colors such as red, green, gold, and silver, are perfect choices to show some cheer! However, only choose one color to pop your look.
Think about core pieces
Not everything is supposed to be shiny and stand out. Shop your closet and pull out what pieces you have already and how you can make them work. Then, if you feel like adding something new I suggest you splurge smart,as festive holiday attire is not something you will be wearing after Auld Lang Syne has been sung.
In the first look above, I took a black dress paired it with some elegant statement slides and brought a pop of color in with the emerald purse. You can style a look similar with almost any black dress and dressy pumps.
Next, I took wide leg pants and paired them with a sequin top. Again, keep in mind you can take any dressy top that you already have and pair it with wide black pants. This is perfect for that semi-formal holiday party.
Lastly, I found this dressy pantsuit. Yes, pantsuits are definitely back in style. I will write more about them in a future blog. You can choose a solid color or one with a fun print. There is also the Tuxedo look which is classic and never seems to go away.
So when it’s time to be Rocking Around the Christmas Tree have fun and among the Holly and The Ivy.
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas and let’s wish for some Joy to The World!
Cheers!
